Social Soup: Curriculum Time at Westmoreland!

This week at the Westmoreland School the Pre-K, Preschool, and Toddlers classes created "Social Soup" during their curriculum time! Each child brought in their own contribution to the soup that they were going to make. It was an all vegetable soup, so the kiddos brought in veggies such as kale, fennel, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, and much more!

With their ingredient from home in hand, each child got to add theirs to the special concoction!

After cooking in the kitchen all morning, the soup was finally done and the kiddos were able to eat their "Social Soup" for lunch!

Look at all those fresh vegetables! It was DELICIOUS!

Also we would like to give a special thanks to the Parents who brought in these
wonderful ingredients! :)

Camping Indoors at Westmoreland!

Last month’s art unit was all about camping! At the Westmoreland school we had a "Camping Day" on July 17th in all the classrooms.

In the Pre-K and PreSchool classroom the children brought their sleeping bags, books, flashlights, and wore their PJ’s.

We sang campfire songs, made healthy s’mores, went on a nature walk around our neighborhood, read books, slept in our sleeping bags and made nature bracelets.

We also had a blast creating campfire food for our art project!
We made hamburgers and hot dogs (vegetarian of course!)

During snack and lunch we had a picnic.

This was a fun filled day that went great with our art theme!

Graduation at CMLC!

Graduation is such a happy time! Full of memories of watching little ones grow up to be big independent children.

It was so much fun preparing for our graduation party! We asked the children what songs they wanted to sing and prepared a list. During practices at the carpet and during our walks outside, our songs grew and we added movement. We added hats and sashes to our wardrobes to make it official!

The day finally arrived and we could not wait for our families to arrive! We all sang loud and proud! Our favorite song at Westmoreland was Herman the Worm! And while getting our certificates we all had made beautiful butterfly pictures to give to our Moms and Dads!

Our Teachers and Families are so proud of all of us! And our Teachers at Creative Minds will miss all of our Pre-K graduates! Congratulations!

Birds, and Butterflies, and Airplanes-Oh My!

This month our kiddos have been hard at work learning about wings and things that fly! Our friends have enjoyed discovering different types of birds, bats, and insects. Some of our classes even got to make a pretend bat cave by hanging a parachute from the ceiling! They were very good bats, doing everything upside down. :) We also learned about non living things that fly, like planes, kites, and hot air balloons, and how they stay in the air.

We had a blast pretending to be insects. Don't you like our antennae?

Out caterpillars came just in time! We are looking forward to their grand exit as butterflies soon!

We enjoyed some themed cooking classes. This was an airplane made from bananas (body), graham crackers (wings), seed butter and raisins (windows).

What a great unit to end our school year on! We are looking forward to the fun and creative units our teachers will implement during the summer months!

Celebrating Earth Day at CMLC!

Today at our CMLC Schools we will be celebrating Earth Day! This is a special occasion that comes once a year, where we have the opportunity to celebrate the wonderful planet we live on, Earth!

Throughout the month of April, CMLC kiddos have been learning about being Eco-Friendly and what they can do to conserve energy, recycle, and be green. Being Eco-Friendly is extremely important to CMLC, as we strive to set an example for the children on how to make smart choices when it comes to environmental issues.

In the coming weeks we will continue to teach about "Being Green," as we create bird feeders out of recycled milk jugs, create classroom recycle bins, talk about saving energy by using a potato light bulb, and more. As we continue to teach the children about this important topics, feel free to talk with them at home to reiterate how together, we can help save our planet!
